Project Funding 2022 / 2023

The Garage (£2,000)

The funding helped to provide open access Summer Project ‘Bugsy Malone’. This programme is made up of 12 projects involving 221 participants of which 197 are young people aged 7-25 years, many of which face challenging circumstances.

Frozen Light (£2,000)

Chivers Trust helped fund their performance ‘Night out in Nature’ at Blickling Hall. Frozen Light is a company which mounts multisensory experiences for children with profound disabilities.

Spinning Wheel/Marina Theatre Summer School (£2,000)

Granted to support the costs of Marina Theatre’s Spinning Wheel Summer School project. A Suffolk based project creating and producing a theatre performance over two weeks, offering five free places to participants from low-income families.

Jubilee Opera (£2,000)

Funding was given towards Jubilee Opera project ‘The Beggar’s Opera’ performed at Snape Maltings in the spring of 2023 as part of their rebuilding of musical training post-Covid. The participants were also supported as part of the project by the new Creative Advisory Group of professionals from Suffolk and East Anglia.

High Tide (£1,500)

Granted to support their Herring Girls project, a performance piece based on the 1938 pay protest made by the Herring Girls on Lowestoft Beach – a largely forgotten women’s rights protest. The project allowed 100 young people from disadvantaged parts of Lowestoft and Ipswich to be recruited to write and perform songs in the spring of 2023 in partnership with First Light Festival, Britten Pears Arts and Seagull Theatre.

English Touring Opera (£2,000)

In support of their touring live opera experiences for schools. Their production of “The Wish Gatherer” (the first of a planned trilogy) was performed at two Norfolk Schools; Norwich Primary Academy and North Walsham Junior School.

Into Opera (£2,500)

Granted to support an original opera project in the spring term of 2023 at 3 primary schools; Bawburgh School, Sprowston Junior School and St Francis or Assisi Catholic Primary School in a 16-week children’s opera and education project involving a premiere performance by 160 children, introducing them to opera through collaboration with professional artists and musicians.

INK Festival (£2,000)

Grant made to support the Youth Programme at the inaugural INK Festival presented at The Cut, Halesworth, in April 2023.

Britten Arts (£2,000)

Celebration of Suffolk Schools Music. 44 Schools took part in the annual Celebration which took place over a week in March 2023 at Snape Maltings.

Sprowston Junior School (£1,950)

Production costs, and preparatory London Workshop for their year 6 of “Matilda – the Musical”, performed in July 2023.

Total Ensemble (£2,000)

Launched the Total Ensemble Arts Initiative, outreach workshops to engage new participants in Gorleston with a project called ‘Ground Up & Grass Roots’. They worked with The Otium Centre.

YNAF (£2,000)

Granted to support the workshop facilitator with preparation for a production of ‘Birdland’, music by Bob Chilcott, libretto by Charles Bennett, in partnership with Springwood High School in Kings Lynn.

Circus Starr (£500)

A discretionary donation granted to support their project to bring the circus to vulnerable and deserving children.

Clown Round (£500)

A discretionary donation granted to support their project to bring the clown entertainer to children’s hospital wards.
